Local People Buy Shares in Artisan Bakery

A one-day breadmaking class led to a career in baking for Englishman Dan McTiernan, who ended up founding a cooperative bakery in Yorkshire, reports the Daily Telegraph.

I've been a member of a CSA group and enjoyed sharing the bounty of a local farm, but the thought of getting fresh bread every week set me drooling. Apparently the bakery is thriving, and McTiernan plans to expand and take over new premises. Investors will be rewarded with 7% interest - paid in bread. (Talk about rising interest rates....)

The Handmade Bakery's bestseller is "the Sleepless White loaf, a chewy, open-structured bread that makes notably good toast," says the Telegraph. "When you bite into a buttered slice, the molten butter held in the pores below the crisp surface is deliciously released."

I usually opt for whole-grain bread, but that sounds wonderful.
